TOKYO - Ford and Toyota Develops New Hybrid System
Ford Motor Company (FMC) and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) have agreed to cooperate to develop sophisticated new hybrid system for use in SUVs and light trucks. Signing of MOU on cooperation development of this product have been done some time ago and will be followed by a formal agreement next year.
Both companies are in fact separately has developed a hybrid system of rear-wheel drive is the latest generation. Now both have been committed to creating a new hybrid propulsion system that will provide fully experience the fuel savings are greater for SUVs and trucks without compromise. Ford and Toyota believes hybrid technology will provide faster and more affordable than the works of each.
"This agreement brings together global leaders in the ability of both vehicles and hybrid technology to develop better solutions more quickly and affordably," said Derrick Kuzak, Group Vice President Global Product Development at Ford. "Ford to achieve a breakthrough through the Ford Fusion Hybrid, and we intend to make another breakthrough for the new group of buyers SUVs and trucks that our customers know so well," he added.
Meanwhile, Takeshi Uchiyamada, Executive Vice President, Research & Development of Toyota, said Toyota launch its first hybrid in 1997 by launching the first-generation Prius. This car is a gasoline-electric hybrid car the first mass-produced. "Since then, we have sold about 3.3 million hybrid cars. We look forward to creating exciting technologies that are useful in conjunction with Ford, and we can do that through experience you have, "said Takeshi.
Under the MOU agreement, both companies will provide a hybrid powertrain technology and the best of their knowledge into a new hybrid system developed jointly. Prediction, hybrid engines in light trucks to be completed by the end of this decade. So it is not possible in the future there will be a hybrid Toyota Fortuner or Ford Explorer Hybrid.
